Privacy policy

The short version. Your food journal stays on your iPhone. Snacked has no ads, no tracking and no analytics. A meal you ask Snacked to analyse is sent only to work out its nutrition, and it is never stored or used for training.

Who is responsible

Snacked is made by Operational Excellence Software in the Netherlands (Chamber of Commerce number 42193086). Questions about privacy go to hi@snacked.app.

What stays on your iPhone

  • Your meals, photos, notes, goals and profile. They live in the app's storage on your iPhone and are included in your iPhone backups.
  • Your account, if you sign in with Apple or Google: your name, email address and account identifier, kept in the iPhone Keychain. The account is never tied to your meals.
  • Reminders, including the reminder before a free trial ends. They are scheduled on your iPhone.

What leaves your iPhone, and why

Meal analysis

When you snap, say or type a meal, or type a change to one, Snacked sends what it needs to work out the nutrition to the Snacked service on Cloudflare: the photo (resized to 1024 pixels), your words or the transcript, your note, barcodes found in the photo, and your language and unit settings. An AI model (Gemma, running on Cloudflare Workers AI) estimates the foods, portions, calories and macros, and the result comes straight back to your iPhone.

The service keeps no copy of your meal and logs no meal content: only timing, status and counts, such as how many items a meal had. Nothing you send is used to train a model.

Each request carries a random install code, so the service can limit how many analyses one install asks for. It is not linked to your name, your account or your meals.

Official product data

Brand names and barcodes from a meal are looked up in Open Food Facts, an open food database, so Snacked can use the official label values and the product photo. The Snacked service caches these product lookups without any link to you. When you scan a barcode, your iPhone can also ask Open Food Facts for the product and its photo directly; like any website, Open Food Facts then sees your IP address.

Speech

When you say a meal, Snacked records it while you talk and sends the audio to the same Snacked service on Cloudflare, where an AI model (Whisper, running on Cloudflare Workers AI) writes down your words in whatever language you speak. While you talk, short pieces are sent every moment for the live transcript; after you pause, the whole recording is sent once more if needed. The audio is used only to write the transcript: the service keeps no copy of it and logs neither the audio nor your words, only timing and status. Nothing is used to train a model.

Purchases

Snacked Premium is bought and managed through Apple. Snacked never sees your payment details; it only learns from Apple whether a subscription or trial is active.

Sign in

Signing in is optional. With Sign in with Apple, the sign-in happens with Apple. With Google, it happens on Google's own page in a secure browser sheet. Snacked only receives your name, email address and an account identifier, which stay on your iPhone.

What Snacked does not do

  • No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
  • No tracking across apps or websites, and no analytics.
  • No selling or sharing of your data, and no profiles of you.

Who helps run Snacked

  • Cloudflare runs the analysis and speech service and this website.
  • Open Food Facts provides product data and photos.
  • Apple provides the App Store, purchases and Sign in with Apple.
  • Google, only if you choose to sign in with Google.

Your choices and rights

  • Use Snacked without an account. Sign out or delete the account in Me at any time.
  • Delete any meal in the app, or delete the app to remove everything it stored on your iPhone.
  • Ask us what we hold about you, or to correct or delete it, at hi@snacked.app. Because your journal never leaves your iPhone for storage, there is usually nothing on our side to look up.
  • If you live in the European Union, you can also complain to your data protection authority. In the Netherlands, that is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

This website

snacked.app sets no cookies of its own and runs no analytics. Cloudflare, which serves the site, processes standard request data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect it.

Children

Snacked is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version appears here with a new date. Important changes are also mentioned in the app's update notes.
